“There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in.”

Dr. Andrew Keenan is a licensed psychologist who is Board Certified in Behavioral and Cognitive Psychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). He is currently licensed in Pennsylvania (PA) and part of the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT), which enables him to provide virtual telehealth services to clients in approximately 40 states, including New Jersey (NJ).

Dr. Keenan specializes in the areas of depression, anxiety (including social anxiety), and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). He also treats insomnia and has expertise in Behavioral Medicine (BMed), supporting patients coping with medical conditions. He has advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), including CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I), Exposure and Response Prevention (ExRP or ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based interventions, and Motivational Interviewing (MI). He is also trained in Behavioral Activation for depression, Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT) for OCD, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE) for PTSD, and treats alcohol and substance use disorders.

Dr. Keenan completed an Intensive Workshop for Exposure and Ritual Prevention Treatment (ExRP) for OCD through the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety, and an ACT Founders’ Bootcamp. He received specialized training and supervision in Motivational Interviewing with longtime MINT trainer and author Dr. Michelle Drapkin. Before pursuing psychology, he worked as a paraprofessional at an Applied Behavior Analysis company, an experience that gave him a strong foundation in behavior analysis and the practical application of behavioral principles, concepts he believes are often underemphasized in clinical training.

He firmly believes that evidence-based treatments must be adapted to the individual, within an empathic and collaborative therapeutic relationship. Throughout the treatment process, Dr. Keenan will work with you to develop a deeper understanding of your current struggles and what keeps you stuck, while collaboratively developing a treatment plan to create sustainable change.

Dr. Keenan believes that it is important to understand each individual’s strengths, goals, and values, to facilitate the view towards the horizon for what lasting change can truly be. He treats individuals highschool-aged up through older adults.

Dr. Keenan graduated from La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA with his Doctoral degree (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology, a program with an exceptional focus on advanced CBT training and competencies. He completed an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and an intensive, advanced postdoctoral residency in CBT that prepared him for ABPP board certification in Behavioral and Cognitive Psychology. Throughout his career, Dr. Keenan has primarily worked in outpatient private practices, and he also has experience working in college counseling centers, a community mental health center, and a residential facility for juvenile offenders.

Dr. Keenan is a member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS), and the Philadelphia Behavior Therapy Association (PBTA). He is listed in the CBT-I International Directory through the University of Pennsylvania. He formerly supervised pre-doctoral interns at Rutgers University’s Counseling, Alcohol and Other Drug Assistance Program & Psychiatric Services (CAPS), as well as post-doctoral residents at a private practice in Pennsylvania. He currently leads a peer consultation group for Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and also participates as a peer in an advanced ACT peer consult group. He facilitates a monthly OCD support group, and has been a guest speaker on navigating ethical dilemmas for an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) company and on theoretical orientations in psychotherapy for a college class.

When he is not working, Dr. Keenan enjoys spending time with his wife, two children, and labrador retriever Jeannie. He also enjoys exercising, going to concerts, trying different cuisines, traveling, and spending time with friends, and is currently learning both Spanish and Hungarian. He would love to play the guitar and, well, that is “on the list” of things.
