The Science Is Clear: Virtual Therapy Works Just as Well. (Yes, Really.)
Look, we get it. Maybe you’re not super techy. Maybe the idea of bonding with someone over a video call just doesn’t compute. That makes total sense and honestly? You might surprise yourself. The research is really clear that virtual therapy works just as well as in-person, and we see it every day. People who swore they needed to sit in an office end up preferring virtual because it’s just easier. Same connection. Same skills. Same results.
Does Virtual Therapy Actually Work?
Short answer: yes. And we mean that backed-by-a-massive-amount-of-research yes.
A review of 92 studies involving over 9,000 participants found that face-to-face and online therapy produced equally effective results for depression, anxiety, and adjustment disorders. And a 2024 meta-analysis comparing remote CBT directly to in-person CBT across randomized controlled trials found little to no difference in effectiveness. That’s the gold standard of research saying: same thing.
Here’s why that makes sense to us. CBT is a robust intervention. The skills are the skills. The relationship is the relationship. The format is just the delivery method.
And here’s the real mic drop: phone sessions are equivalent too. You don’t even need video. So if the commute feels like too much, or you’re genuinely too far, or you just want to do your session from your car in a parking lot on your lunch break, that counts. That works. People get better that way every single day.

What We Treat Virtually
Pretty much everything. Anxiety, OCD, depression, trauma and PTSD, relationship issues, life transitions, addiction and substance use, all of it translates beautifully to virtual care.
The conditions we treat virtually include:
- Anxiety and Worry
- OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder)
- Depression
- Trauma and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder)
- Couples Issues
- Family Issues
- Substance Use and Addiction
- Life Transitions and Stress
We find a way to make virtual work for almost everyone. The one caveat? Some younger kids do better in person. Staying engaged through a screen can be a real challenge at certain ages and sometimes in-person is just a better fit developmentally. We’ll always be honest with you about that.
And if you simply prefer sitting in a room with your therapist? We have a beautiful office in Highland Park, NJ for exactly that reason.
How It Works
Getting started is easier than you think.
Step 1: Fill out our interest form. Tell us a little about what’s bringing you to therapy and what you’re looking for.
Step 2: We figure out if we’re a good fit. Someone from our team will reach out to learn more about you, answer your questions, and make sure we’re the right match.
Step 3: Get onboarded. Once we’re moving forward, we’ll set you up on our secure health portal through Simple Practice and find a time that works for you.
Step 4: Show up as you are. A few minutes before your session you’ll get a text with a secure link. Click it from your browser or your phone. Couch, home office, parked car, wherever works.
And here’s something people don’t always think about: virtual isn’t just convenient, it can actually be clinically powerful. We get to see your world. Your home, your environment, the stuff that’s actually stressing you out. You can show us things. We can do exposures in the exact places where anxiety shows up for you, the kitchen, the car, the office. That’s not a workaround. That’s good treatment.
Who Is Virtual Therapy Right For?
Honestly? Most people. The research is clear and we see it every day. Virtual therapy works just as well as in-person for the vast majority of people we treat. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, or relationship stress, virtual CBT delivers.
We’ve had patients who were genuinely skeptical, convinced they’d never be able to connect through a screen, who ended up thriving. The hesitation is real and valid. The results tend to be surprising.
The one group we think about more carefully: younger kids. Staying engaged through a screen can be tough at certain ages and sometimes in-person is just a better fit developmentally. We’ll always be honest with you about that.
And if you simply prefer sitting in a room with your therapist? We have a beautiful office in Highland Park, NJ for exactly that reason.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Literally the same. The research is overwhelmingly clear on this and it matches everything we see in our own practice every day. Same skills, same relationship, same results. The format is just the delivery method.
Nope. We get that concern and we want to put it to rest immediately. We intentionally chose a system that makes this as easy as possible for our patients. A link lands in your inbox right before your session. You click it. Boom. Therapy.
You don’t need one. We have met people everywhere. In their cars, in their basements, in their closets. Headphones are your best friend. We even do walk and talks sometimes. Wherever you can carve out a little privacy, we can make it work.
Yes. There’s an app you can download and it works great. Whatever device is easiest for you.
OMG yes. We take privacy and confidentiality incredibly seriously. Our platform is fully HIPAA compliant and built specifically for healthcare. Your sessions, your records, your information, completely protected. Same standards as in-person, no exceptions.
That stinks and we’re sorry to hear it. We’d love to talk through what went wrong and figure out what we can do differently. Sometimes there are things we can help with, the setup, the fit, the format. And sometimes virtual just isn’t your thing and that’s okay too. That’s exactly why we have a beautiful office in Highland Park, NJ. We want you to get great treatment, whatever that looks like for you.
Heck yes. We are licensed in New Jersey and New York and through PsyPact we cover 40+ states. Where are you? We will meet you there. That includes when you’re traveling, when your kid goes off to college, when you move, when life happens. All of it. PsyPact, short for the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact, is an interstate agreement that allows licensed psychologists to practice telepsychology across state lines without needing a separate license in every state. Think of it as a passport for virtual therapy. Instead of being limited to one state, our psychologists can see patients across more than 40 participating states legally and seamlessly. And we don’t just talk about being on the cutting edge of virtual care. We’ve been doing this since it was possible. We were among the first practices in the country to get PsyPact credentialed. This isn’t new for us. We’ve been here.
We would love that and welcome it. We are not a fully virtual practice. We have lots of options. We see patients in person seven days a week in our beautiful office in Highland Park, NJ and we will work to find you the right fit. We love in-person. We offer virtual because it helps people access great care. Whatever you need, we’ve got you.
