“There is always light. If only we’re brave enough to see it. If only we’re brave enough to be it.”

Lisa Franklin, MSW, LCSW (formerly Lisa Smith) is a licensed clinical social worker at The CBT Center, bringing over 20 years of clinical experience, including a previous leadership role in the community. She has a particular love for working with adolescents, and has direct training with the Beck Institute for CBT.

Lisa’s clinical approach draws on a range of evidence-based methods, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), and Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE). For clients navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, or disruptive behaviors, she also incorporates behavioral modification strategies to support lasting, practical change.

Lisa specializes in working with children, adolescents, and young adults, providing individual and family therapy, with particular clinical depth in suicide prevention. She has led the implementation of CBT for suicidal patients in an outpatient setting, including developing a treatment-specific curriculum and providing direct training, supervision, and consultation to a team of clinical staff. She also offers parent coaching and consults with schools, helping families and educators support children and adolescents outside the therapy room.

She has a particular interest in working with young adults as they transition from childhood to adulthood and enjoys supporting individuals and families struggling to cope in their lives. In addition to her work at The CBT Center, she works full-time at a VA hospital, where she brings that same depth of experience to treating veterans. Her practice is client-focused, supportive, practical, and driven by a collaborative approach. She provides secure telehealth services outside of work/school hours and is licensed in New Jersey.
